ITINERARY CHIOGGIA AND PELLESTRINA
Arrival in Chioggia in the morning with your own bus where you will meet your local guide for a visit of our beautiful town , known as the “little Venice”. Chioggia was built in the first centuries on various islands connected each other from bridges and marked by an amazing herring-bone pattern. Among the most important buildings there are the CATHEDRAL OF SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA, PALAZZO POLI which was the place where CARLO GOLDONI lived, father of Italian comedy. Then PALAZZO GRASSI, now University branch, and finally the charming PIAZZETTA VIGO where a lion with wings (the symbol of Venice) dominates the lagoon landscape on the top of a column.
After the visit you will stop in a typical restaurant in the heart of the town where you will taste a delicious fish lunch, using all local products.
After lunch you will board on a private boat for a 3-hours navigation throughout the south Venetian Lagoon, while the Captain will explain you stories and legends of Chioggia, satisfying all your curiosities about the fishing world.
Navigating these expanse of open water and lands of natural interest you can admire countless mussel parks and numerous species of birds, such as seagulls, herons and sterns, until you will stop in Pellestrina, a strip of land dividing the Venetian lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. Pellestrina is a little fishing village, known for its colourful houses, and for its elegant bobbin laces… The bobbin lace was born in France in the fifteenth century and is practiced particularly by old women sitting all together in front of their house, chatting while embroiding.
After the landing on the island you will meet a local guide for the visit of this interesting village. You will take a visit to the Lace Museum containing handsome laceworks, among which the longest bobbin lace in the world., more than 450 metres long!!
Afterwards you continue the visit with a stop at the Sanctuary of The “Madonna dell ‘Apparizione” where on the 4th of August 1716 the Holy Mother appeared to a little boy while he was going to the parish church of Ognissanti, passing in front of the temple of Saints Vito and Modesto, who also kept an ancient painting depicting the Madonna del Carmine.
After the visit, boarding and return to Chioggia.
